FISHING QUALIFICATIONS:

Fishing is open to any Financial member of the GFC of SA or who are financial members of any club affiliated with SAGFA or a State Association affiliated with GFAA or IGFA

FISHING TIMES:

Will be displayed on the clubs web site as well as being listed in club news letter “The Pointer” and every member will receive a Fishing Calendar for the season or can down load one off the club web site.

RECORDING FORM LODGEMENT :

Only club or supplied recording forms or a copy thereof, completed in full in block letters, signed and handed or posted into the weight recorder at the club within 14 days from the end of the fishing trip that the fish were recorded on.

Failure to Comply with the above “Dead line ” will mean disqualification of scoring from that recording form

RECORDING FORMS & PROCEDURES

Recording Form Books can be obtained from the Club’s Merchandising Officer. Only these recording forms or copy thereof will be accepted for the recording of points during the clubs fishing season towards their yearly score

(1) It is the sole responsibility of the entered angler or team to present their recording form, any used tag cards or unused tags issued to that angler or team for use in the clubs weight recorder at a given location and no later than time indicated on the recording form. Failure to do so will incur disqualification of scoring for the season

(2) Any and all recording forms or used tag cards presented must be legible and completed in Full. All tag cards must have GPS co ordinances applied

(3) If all of the above part (1) is adhered to but the recording forms or tag cards received are incomplete, the club weight recorder will contact the angler concerned to complete the necessary requirements, but only if presented earlier than the dead line indicated above and on all recording forms and only if enough time allows.

(4) If contact and or the required completion of the forms and or cards in question is not achieved before the stated dead line indicated above and on the recording form, the recording forms or tag cards submitted will be deemed invalid for scoring in the event they are entered for and may even incur disqualification from scoring in any yearly score

(5) Any State, National or International Record claim made has a nomination cost and a lodgment deadline of 28 days from the date of capture.

The Club’s Weight Recorder and or a Tournament committee official will be able to assist with the acquisition of the procedures, information required and the costs involved

FISHING BOUNDARIES AND TIMES

The clubs yearly fishing rules, criteria’s, species, times and boundaries are chosen by the tournament committee. A yearly fishing calendar with written descriptions of events, times, areas, species and criteria will be displayed on the clubs web site, in “The Pointer” and on the Yearly fishing calendar supplied. The start times will be referred to as ‘Lines In’ and a finishing time will be referred to as ‘Lines Out’.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BOATS:

During any period of the GFC of SA fishing Season or any event held at sea, the sea worthiness and safety of the boat is the sole responsibility of the owner, skipper and crew, and safety is a prime factor when at sea. We ask that you take no risks! Boats that put to sea do so at their own risk. Adequate and legally approved safety equipment must be carried. The Game Fishing Club of S.A..... or any of its members will not be responsible for any accident or injury on or during any of the clubs tournaments, challenges or events held during the year.

BURLEYING:

A person must not use blood & bone, meat, offal or skin of an animal or mammal as burley with in 2n / miles of the mainland, islands or reef exposed at low tide in S.A.... state territorial waters. Regulations do not prohibit the prudent dispersal of fish oil; however, any fishing activity must also comply with the legal requirements regarding approved gear. There is to be no pre-burleying in the tournament waters prior to the tournament.

NON LINE CLASS CAPTURES:

When Recording a Non line Class Capture

Note:- ( Non Line Class recordings are only recorded in Non Line Class category for the biggest of each GFAA species & Only the biggest of each speices recorded will be the winner no matter what Division is recording)

LINE CLASS CAPTURES:

All Line class captures must adhere to the GFAA equipment rules and regulation and must be of line class or double the line class in the case of Sharks

( Sharks must be minimum of 1 metre in length) and Eagle Rays. Only the line classes recognized by GFAA listed below will be recognized. It is not necessary to actually kill the fish, shark or eagle ray to record it as a capture the fish, shark or eagle ray should be handled with care and restrained only long enough to remove your gear and then be released in a good and healthy condition and then just record it on your recording form as a capture.

LINE CLASS: 1kg, 2kg, 3kg, 4kg, 6kg, 8kg, 10kg, 15kg, 24kg, 36kg, 60kg.

RATIO: As per G.F.A.A. rules

Weight of fish (in Kg) X 100 Divided by the line class used.

E.g.:- 20kg fish X 100=2,000 -:- 6kg line = 333.33 points

MINIMUM FISH AND SHARKS WEIGHTS FOR CAPTURE or TAG / RELEASE

Sharks must be a minimum of 1 metre in length and at ratio of 2:1 to claim points but when this criteria is met will be calculated at a 1:1 Ratio

Eagle Rays must be a 2:1 ratio to claim points but when this criteria is met will be calculated at a 1:1 Ratio

Game fish must be at least a 1:1 Ratio to claim points.

Any and all point Score obtained by an Angler will accumulate over the season but only be relevant category that the angler has obtain those points in.

And the same will apply to the species that the point score is recorded on.

ILLEGAL CAPTURES

Will include all captures not complying with:

(A) G.F.A.A. Rules as laid out in the current copy of the official “G.F.A.A. Australian Game fishing Journal”

(B) S.A..... State Fisheries Regulations will apply and must be adhered to, in all matters pertaining to and concerning the legal aspect of Fishing in SA waters (Refer to a current copy of) “The Official S.A..... Recreational Fishing Guide “ These legal regulations can also apply to equipment and it is each angler’s responsibility to be familiar and comply with the relevant government regulations

(C) Fish hooked out of season, in aquatic reserve or during a specific government area closure. (Refer to a current copy of) “The Official S.A....Recreational Fishing Guide “

(E) Any capture or tag and release made whilst an angler is receiving remuneration will be deemed not eligible for club trophies, awards or points. (but may be eligible to be claimed as a State, National or World Record.)

(D) GREAT WHITE SHARKS are a Banned species and as such Fishing or any Interaction with a Great White Pointer Shark Including Free Tagging or Feeding for purpose of Filming or taking Pictures this species is totally prohibited.by law

WEIGHING

Weighing of fish shall be the sole responsibility of the angler, which may be weighed at sea, except for record claims, which are required to be weighed on land, and the angler also must complete the record claim process as listed the GFC of SA States Record book or GFAA year book. This record claim checklist will help you and is recommended.

CLUB WEIGHING SCALES:

Club scales will be available to members at the club rooms by contacting any committee member to arrange access and pick If there is a possible record claim, a senior member must assist with the weighing as a witness (contact the designated Club weight recorder for more information) It is the anglers responsibility to make these necessary arrangements

WITNESSING CAPTURE PROCEDURE Notes:

(1) A witness to an angler’s capture or tagging is required when and where possible. It is important that any witness attesting to an angler’s capture or tagging be over the age of 18 and If or when a recording form is signed or statutory declaration is to be used or provided as proof of a capture or tagging that both the angler and witness fully understand the fishing rules and the rules for fishing equipment as set out by GFAA and that they were met and adhered to at all times during the claimed tagging or capture activities to be eligible for club points or trophies.

(2) Junior members registered solely as junior anglers with the Club, or falls under family membership registration as a junior who is not over the age of 16, are required to have their capture or tagging witnessed and recording form signed by a senior over the age of 18 that fully understand the fishing rules and the rules for fishing equipment has set out by GFAA and that they were meet and adhered to at all times during the claimed tagging or capture activities to be eligible for club points or trophies.

USE OF HE WEIGHT ESTIMATION FORMULA

THIS CAN NOW ONLY BE USED FOR THE PURPOSE OF TAGGING & RELEASING OF SHARKS

Only in the invent that the skipper/crew on the boat or the Captain of a land based team deems it unsafe, impractical or could possibly cause undue stress or harm to the shark by landing & physically weighing it.

( as we ask all members to release their Sharks in a Good Healthy Condition.)

The committee has approved the following GFC of SA weight estimation formula to calculate the weight of sharks, where it is intended to Record Points for tag & release Only

The shark must be tagged with the appropreate shark tag issued by the club

The measurements obtained of the length and of the breadth at its widest point. Must be measured in a flat straight line or on an IGFA brag measuring mat if possible (see examples)

Where L = Total Length of Fish in Cm

Where w = The Flat Height of the Widest part of Fish in Cm

( not around the grith or half of the grith but a flat straight measurement)

These measurements can now be used to mathematically calculate an estimated a weight (as shown in sample Fig 1) for scoring (T) tag points ONLY

The Sharks must be a Minimum of One Meter in Length and of legal size by law, or GFAA’s Size listing for that specific

species which ever is the greater and must meet the line class criteria of double the line class in the case of a Shark or Eagle Ray.

TAGGING

FISH HANDLING AND TAGGING ETHICS

The Game Fishing Club of S.A. fully supports tagging programs for scientific data collection and the preservation of fish stocks.

The club recognizes and fully supports the programs run by the N.S.W. DPI. When tagging a fish the fish must be handled in the water where possible,

or be landed with due care by using a net or lipping device where possible and NOT a gaff. Fish should also be handled in such a manner as to ensure its survival and allow it to be released in a good healthy condition.

The weighing of the fish is not totally necessary for the scoring of Tag points ONLY within the club but can be measured and an appropriate weight calculated off of a fish length to weight chart that as been approved by the GFCSA club.

if claiming a Tag Capture the Fish, Shark or Eagle Ray MUST be WEIGHED before being tagged & released.

All measuring must be done in a straight flat line & not over the fish Fig (1) or on an official IGFA measuring mat i.e.( brag mat ) as shown fig(2)

Each boat/angler will be issued the appropriate tags required which must be only be used on the appropriate GFAA Game listed species and placed in the appropriate position or location of that species

(As per Diagram Below) if these tags are used on the wrong species the tag card will be deemed invalid and any points resulting for that card will be disallowed from the scoring of any points.

Any and all tag serial numbers must be registered with the club weight recorder or will be issued to the angler or boat and is the sole responsibility of the skipper of that boat or angler that the tags were issued to, to make sure that any tags not issued are registered with the clubs weight recorder and that all tags used or unused must be returned along with recording forms to the club, by dead line indicated on your recording form

(Only tags issued by or registered with the Club Weight Recorder will be accepted for scoring points at any time)

Any of the Game species listed by GFAA are eligible for tagging. The tagging of a listed Game fish, Shark or Eagle Ray will be regarded as a simulated capture and as such must also adhere to the equipment rules as laid out by GFAA as well as be of legal size by the law or the GFAA species listed which ever is the greater and of line class or double the line class in the case of Sharks or Eagle Rays.

NONE LINE CLASS TAGGING

Must be a GFAA Species, must be of Legal size by Law and will only score as one tag in the Non Line Class Category no point scoring will be applied

LINE CLASS TAGGING

Will score 50% of the calculated Capture score added to the capture score as a bonus of points and will apply when recorded as a (TR) tagged Game Fish, Shark or Eagle Ray

( Only the Line Classes Recognized by GFAA listed below will be Allowed for any & all Recordings.)

LINE CLASS: 1kg, 2kg, 3kg, 4kg, 6kg, 8kg, 10kg, 15kg, 24kg, 36kg, 60kg.

Line Class Tag e.g. -

Weight of fish in (Kg) X 100 Divided by the line class used in (Kg) . Plus 50% of these calculated capture points to be added to the capture points to give a total tagging point score

ELIGIBLE TAGGING SPECIES:

There are 2 criteria and 3 GFAA eligible species listings for tagging ( see section 1,2 and 3 below )

(1) THE TAGGING OF ANY GAME FISH SPECIES NOMINATED EITHER BY GFC of SA OR LISTED BY GFAA (List Will Be Provided)

MUST BE LEGAL BY THE LAW AND COMPLY WITH THE GFAA LINE CLASS RULE OF A RATIO OF 1 TO 1

(2) THE TAGGING OF ANY SHARK SPECIES NOMINATED EITHER BY GFC of SA or LISTED BY GFAA (List Will Be Provided) MUST BE AT LEAST ONE METRE IN LENGTH AND COMPLY WITH LINE CLASS AT RATIO OF 2 TO 1

(3) THE TAGGING OF AN EAGLE RAY MUST COMPLY WITH LINE CLASS AT RATIO OF 2 TO 1

NOT ELIGIBLE FOR TAG AND RELEASE

(A) Undersized Fish.

(B) Fish hooked out of season, in aquatic reserve, fish farm, during a specific restricted species closures or closure area

(D) Foul hooked, Jagged, Trapped, Free Gaffed or Free Netted

FISH HANDLING AND TAGGING ETHICS

CARCASSES/FISH FRAMES

Anglers are totally responsible for the disposal of their unwanted fish burley, fish captures and or remains thereof not taken, or used during a competition or tournament. Unwanted fish burley, fish captures and or remains thereof and fish that are not wanted should be taken at least 3km out to sea and cut up before disposal.

Note:-There are strict laws on littering and or contaminating of the environment that apply and there are heavy fines for indiscriminately littering and also the contaminating of our water ways and its associated environmental areas.

SAFETY

All boats must be seaworthy and must comply with the SA Department of Transport’s regulations with regard to safety equipment.

All skippers must be aware of their own capabilities, and the capabilities of their boat, and should not put to sea or continue fishing should conditions be beyond those capabilities.

PROTESTS

A protest lodged for clarification and or judgment of equipment regulations, fishing rules, captures, unsportsmanlike behavior, fishing times, boundary infringements and point scoring issues during tournament, will be judged on by the “Tournament Committee” which will consist of the President, Weight Recorder, Tournament Director and the Technical Adviser, and their decision in these matters will be final. If any of the tournament committee is part of the protest then they will be obliged to stand aside and another club committee member will be appointed.

Any and All protests must be in writing and handed into the committee with their recording forms and or within the recording form dead line time frame of 14 days, the 14day period will apply as from time and date of the alleged infringement

CHARTER BOATS / DE-REREGISTERING

(1) Teams and individual anglers will be encouraged to seek the services of charter boat operators to enable them to enter any tournament as a team or individual angler. It is the responsibility of the angler or team entered on that charter boat to comply with the GFAA’s fishing rules and requirements for equipment and any other relative rules supplied by GFC of SA for anglers and or teams .

(2) Charter boats or fishing guide operators if on a paid charter during the tournament or any club seasonal event will not be eligible for any Club Yearly Points Scoring or Club Yearly Trophy Categories.

(3) Club members who are charter boat owners or using a charter boat that is registered as such when fishing in any club event or tournament throughout the clubs fishing season will not be eligible for any yearly Club Point Scoring or Club Yearly Trophy Categories for that boat .

(4) Any club member owning or operating a charter boat that has de-reregistered their boat as such and registered the boat under private numbers will then and only then be eligible to accumulate yearly Club Point Score for that boat throughout the clubs fishing season and compete for any and all of the clubs yearly Trophy Categories.

(5) The fisheries reference number issued for the de-registration / re- register as well as the time, date and period of the de-registration / re-register must be quoted to and on request of any committee member, this same information must be also clearly be shown in block letters on any and all recording forms submitted, if not, any recording not having this information upon it, will be deemed invalid for any accumulate yearly Club Point Scoring or Club Yearly Trophy Categories.

(6) Club Anglers competing throughout the year and utilizing the services of a charter boat must be aware that their individual scoring on that boat will be awarded into the Boat class category relative the boats size chartered i.e. If chartering an O/25 then your individual score will count and accumulate in the O/25 class category, if chartering a 25ft & Under then your score will count and accumulate the 25ft & Under category, this is also the same when fishing on a private boat, your score will be applied to the applicable class category scored in

NOTE:-The registration or de-registration of any boat entered in any club event or tournament throughout the club's fishing season is solely the responsibility of the owner, operators or entrant.

MEMBERS RESPONSIBILITIES

The ultimate liability, or decision to put to sea, return to harbor, or continue with fishing remains the solo responsibility of the individual.The GFC of SA will not accept any responsibility, or be held liable for any unsportsmanlike conduct, loss or damage to any persons or property, including personal injury or death how so ever occurred, before, during or after any GFC of SA scheduled, Tournament or Event.And the same will apply to the species that the point score is recorded on.

-- CLUB TROPHY CRITERIA --

CHAMPION ANGLER CRITERIA:

To Qualify for a “ Senior or Ladies Champion Angler Trophy, Anglers must for fill each of the Four sections of fishing criteria required with the highest score.

An angler must record in no specific order, these four fishing criteria as follows:-

(1) RECORD THE CAPTURE OF GAME FISH SPECIES LISTED BY GFCSA OR GFAA

(2) RECORD THE CAPTURE OF A SHARK SPECIES LISTED BY GFAA

(3) RECORD THE CAPTURE OF AN EAGLE RAY

(4) RECORD THE TAGGING OF A GAME FISH LISTED BY GFAA

The Highest Scoring Angler completing these required four Sections of fishing criteria will be deemed the “Champion Angler in their specific category.

CHAMPION JUNIOR or SMALL FRY ANGLER

Note:- There Must be more than one Junior or small fry Angler Competing to be eligible but all other categories are obtainable)

The Highest Scoring Junior or small fry angler competing in any of the fishing categories i.e.

O25ft, 25ft&Under or Land Based will be deemed the “Champion Angler” of that category. The highest scoring Junior angler over all categories will be also in line for

“ the Trevor Rule Perpetual Champion Junior Trophy”

HIGHEST POINT SCORING ANGLER CATEGORIES:

To Qualify for the Highest Point Scoring Senior or Lady angler for each of the clubs fishing categories i.e.

O25ft, 25ft & Under or Land Based are not required to complete the (4) four sections of fishing criteria required for champion angler, as above .

(This trophy cannot be won by the Champion Angler.)

NOTE: Angler Must have a Higher Point Score than the Champion Angler in their specific Category to be deemed the winner.

HIGHEST TAG POINT SCORING ANGLER CATEGORIES:

To Qualify for the Highest Tag Point Scoring Anglers in each division and in each of the clubs fishing categories i.e.

O25ft, 25ft & Under or Land Based are not you not required to complete the (4) four sections of fishing criteria required for champion angler, as above .

The Angler with the Highest Tagging Score will be deemed the winner of their appropriate fishing Category & Division

NOTE: Only the 50% Tag bounce score will be counted

OVER 25ft CHAMPION BOAT CATEGORY :

To qualify for Champion Boat. —- Any GFCSA member or any financial affiliated members of G.F.A.A, I.G.F.A

that have recorded on that Boat & completed the (4) four sections of fishing criteria required as listed in the Champion Angler section

(This can be achieved by any individual or all anglers fishing on that boat) plus record the highest accumulated point score to be deemed the Winner.

25ft & UNDER CHAMPION BOAT CATEGORY :

(Must be More than One Boat Competing)

To qualify for Champion Boat. —- Any GFCSA member or any financial affiliated members of G.F.A.A, I.G.F.A

that have recorded on that Boat & completed the (4) four sections of fishing criteria required as listed in the Champion Angler section

(This can be achieved by any individual or all anglers fishing on that boat) plus record the highest accumulated point score to be deemed the Winner.

HIGHEST POINT SCORING BOAT OVER 25ft CATEGORY :

( This trophy cannot be won by the Champion Boat Must be More than One Boat Competing)

The Highest Point Scoring Boat overall is not required to complete (4) four sections of fishing criteria as the Champion Boat.

The Boat Must have a Higher Point Score than the Champion Boat to be deemed the winner.

HIGHEST POINT SCORING BOAT 25ft & UNDER CATEGORY :

(This trophy cannot be won by the 25ft & Under Champion Boat Must be More than One Boat Competing)

The Highest Point Scoring Boat 25ft & Under is not required to complete the four sections of fishing criteria as the Champion

25ft & Under Boat. Must have a Higher Point Score than the 25ft & Under Champion Boat to be deemed the winner.

HIGHEST TAG POINT SCORING BOAT CATEGORIES:

(Must be More than One Boat Competing)

To Qualify for the Highest Tag Point Scoring Boat in the O25ft, 25ft & Under categories.

The Boat is not required to complete the (4) four sections of fishing criteria required for Champion Boat or Angler, as above.

Any GFCSA member or financial affiliated members of G.F.A.A, I.G.F.A that have recorded Tags on that Boat will be Counted.

The Boat recoding Highest accumulated Tagging Score will be Deemed the Winner.

NOTE: Only the 50% Tag bounce scores will be counted.
